Small team, big voice: guilding a global audience in the age of AI
Digital publishing, AI-assisted editing and social media scheduling tools have transformed what’s possible for non-profits. Today, any organisation – regardless of size or budget – can build an online media brand that amplifies its mission, attracts supporters and creates revenue. Speak Media’s work with Parkinson’s Europe shows how the right strategy and technology can turn a small communications team into the engine of a global publication.
Modern tools for lean teams
Thanks to automation and intuitive content platforms, you no longer need a newsroom to run a magazine. AI-powered transcription services convert interviews and podcasts into written stories in minutes, while analytics and scheduling platforms help you publish at the optimum time. These efficiencies free up capacity to focus on what matters – telling compelling stories and engaging your audience.
Parkinson’s Life: an online magazine for Parkinson’s Europe
What we built for Parkinson’s Europe
Speak Media helped Parkinson’s Europe launch Parkinson’s Life, an online magazine and podcast designed to serve people with Parkinson’s, their families, healthcare professionals and advocates. The platform was engineered for efficiency and impact:
Purpose-built website. We designed a responsive site with modular templates so editors can publish features, videos and infographics without technical support.
Community-driven content. The magazine invites people with Parkinson’s to share their experiences; as the charity’s head of communications said at launch, it was conceived as a platform “driven by the Parkinson’s community”.
Podcasting with reach. The Parkinson’s Life podcast brings together guests from around the world to discuss life with the condition. By late 2023 it ranked in the top 10 % of podcasts globally for first-week listens and had accumulated over 34 000 listens.
AI‑assisted workflows. Automated transcription and translation tools shorten production times and make content accessible to a wider audience.
Scalable revenue model. Sponsored articles, podcasts and social media assets offer partners meaningful exposure while funding the magazine’s growth.

Impact and ownership
Parkinson’s Life now reaches readers in over 230 countries and has built thriving social channels; its Facebook page counts more than 7.5 thousand followers. The British Medical Association recognised the magazine as Highly Commended in its Patient Information Awards for its well-designed, accessible content.
Most importantly, Parkinson’s Life has become a core part of the charity’s communications strategy and a key driver of fundraising and advocacy. After establishing the platform and processes, Speak Media supported the transition of the operation to in-house. Today, a lean in‑house team continues to publish weekly, manage the podcast and deliver sponsored campaigns without external support.
“Speak’s willingness to coach and collaborate meant our small comms team could take ownership of Parkinson’s Life. Today, it’s the cornerstone of our communications strategy and a major driver of our fundraising partnerships and engagement across Europe and beyond.””
