The 2022 festive edition of Speak’s ‘values walk’

This year, we wrapped up warm and took in the Christmas lights of central London for the 2022 Speak values walk.

Did you know walking is thought to boost thinking, encourage productivity and enhance creativity? That’s why the Speak Media team takes an annual ‘values walk’ – to reflect on our agency principles and how these shape the unique offering we provide for our clients.

The agency’s core values of ambition, collaboration and energy have been at Speak’s heart since it started in 2011. In 2019, we added curiosity to the list, reflecting the intrepid nosiness that’s essential in our team of brand journalists.

The walk is a chance to reinforce these values and think about how we live and breathe them in our work week in and week out. Previous editions have taken place in the North Downs and the Tamsin Trail in Richmond – but this year, the team stayed a little closer to home, making the most of the beautiful (and very Christmassy) surroundings right on the doorstep of our coworking space in Charing Cross.

Starting off along Whitehall, we crunched through the fallen leaves in St James’s Park and took in the festive displays along Piccadilly before heading back to Soho for some delicious cocktails (and to warm up!) at The Blind Pig.

Reflecting on her first ‘values walk’, junior content producer Scarlett Sherriff said: “It was fantastic to discuss how the team collaborates to produce the best possible work for our clients.

“Plus, walking is a strong metaphor for moving forward, and as 2022 draws to a close, it felt like an apt time to discuss how we can continue to embody our agency values in the future.”

Grace Nolan, who joined Speak Media in January, said: “My first values walk was a great experience. It was a wonderful opportunity to hear what Speak values mean to each of us as individuals – I learned so much about myself and my values in just one day.”

“The walk offers something new each year,” added senior content producer Johanna Stiefler Johnson, who has enjoyed several of these strolls since joining Speak. “This year, I loved hearing unique perspectives from both new and seasoned colleagues, which I might not otherwise have considered. A brisk London walk is the perfect way to get conversation flowing around what is important to our team.”
